Kickboxing is a group of stand-up combat sports based on kicking and punching, historically developed from Karate, Muay Thai, Kun Khmer, and Boxing. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport.
American kickboxing originated in the 1970s and was brought to prominence in September 1974, when the Professional Karate Association (PKA) held the first World Championships. Historically, kickboxing can be considered a hybrid martial art formed from the combination of elements of various traditional styles.


Divided into American kickboxing:

  • full-contact
  • full-contact with low-kick
  • semi-contact
  • light-contact

Japanese kickboxing:

1. Semi-contact

Section kickboxing, which prohibited the strong, accented punches and kicks. Because of these limitations paced higher than in full-contact. The victory is awarded to the athlete who has demonstrated the best hand work technique and legs and, respectively, who caused a greater number of punching and kicking. The bout is intermittent, since after the clean punch or kick the referee stops the fight and gives points.

2. Light-contact (contact Light)

Section kickboxing, which is characterized by the prohibition of hard punches (except when the opponent suddenly went on strike), and the count knockout or knockdown (if any), but points at the same time do not count. Preference is given to kicks, and above all of them are estimated jump kicks. In contrast to the seven-contact, in the style of the men do not stop after striking. The judges count the points for each hit, reached the goal.

3. Full-contact (full contact)

Section kickboxing, where kicks and punches are applied without restriction forces in full contact. As in boxing, knockdowns and knockouts are counted. Kicks are allowed only from the waist up.

4. Full-contact with the low-kick

CATEGORY kickboxing, wherein permitted kicking by the outer and inner side of the thigh, PROHIBITED beat low-kick in the knee. It is possible to strike the gastrocnemius muscle and hooking the ankle (sweeps).

5. The composition Solo

Section of kickboxing in which the competitions held under the music, include three types. The compositions are performed in the “hard” style, “soft” style and with objects, including fragments of a traditional complexes of formal exercises of martial arts. The compositions in the “hard” style reproduce typical plastic “battle with the shadow” of the traditional martial arts, such as karate – up, taekwondo and others. The compositions in the “soft” style based on the technique of martial arts such as Wushu.
